cat.......? does anyone have a picture of a 5-6 pound cat? i am trying to get a picture of the size.. thank you! =]
How do Cats and Dogs know which is cat food and which is dog food? I have 2 cats and three dogs. One night, I ran out of cat food (the dry type) and my cats were hungry. So since I had dog food only and the shops were closed, I gave them dog kibbles. They're more or less of the same shape and size and are made of the same ingredients - chicken. My cats took a nibble and refused the rest of the bowl, preferring to go hungry than eat dog food. The next day, i got them a fresh pack of made-for-cats kibbles and they immediately dived in and ate up. How come my cats knew what I gave them wasn't cat food? I also know of dogs that won't eat cat food for the long run (not mine though, cos they're pigs and will eat anything). It would be good if a pet food manufacturer can answer this question. Is there some special ingredient you put in cat and dog food that makes cats and dogs know which kibbles is who's? Also, nowadays, dogs are eating fish too - like salmon. You can't say it's the ingredient. How come they know the difference?
How do I get my cat to eat wet cat food instead of dry cat food? I have heard that dry cat food is bad for your cats health. My cat loves dry cat food and only eats a small amount of the wet cat food. I used to give her dry food in the mornings but now I have started to give her wet cat food as that would be the time when she is the most hungry. This morning she woke me up meowing becuase she was hungry and I fed her one of those small tins of cat food and she only ate half. An hour later she still didn't finish it. I gave her a small pile of dry cat food and she ran straight over and ate it. I don't think it is enough food for her to be eating only one small tin of cat food a day (half in the morning, half at night). She is already small and although her weight is okay, she really doesn't need to be any thinner.
Why does my cat get so jealous of other cats? I have two cats. My girl hates the boy and hisses at him constantly. And she is always fighting with the cat upstairs. I have heard of cats who are friendly and cuddle with each other but I have never had a cat like that. Is my cat just a b*tch? She is very friendly with me.
How do I get my cat to loose weight, and the others to stay where they are? I have three cats. Two are brother and sister orange kitties and the other isn't related (she's black and white) . The one who is not related is really obese. The cats are half indoor half outdoor (they like to play outside for a few hours but stay inside most). The black and white cat doesn't really run or exercise a lot. if she's inside she will lay in one spot the entire day. We feed the cats in one room because sometimes one of them will be left outside and we don't want to forget to feed that one. The two orange cats will eat a little bit of their food and run off. The black and white cat will eat all of her food and then the other cats' leftovers. I'm not sure what I can do to help the overweight loose weight. The vet hasn't really reccomended anything.
What cat breed is generally the most friendly? I have two cats that I rescued from shelters (shorthair mix and siamese mix). I love them both to pieces, but they're both incredibly mean. They bite and scratch and hiss at everything and they HATE to be picked up. I'm thinking about getting another cat (like from a cat breeder this time) and I want to get a friendly cat that likes to be held. Any suggestions? No, I don't think that a cat has to come from a breeder to be friendly. I just wanted to try something different. I've met some cats from shelters that are really sweet.
What cat food is best for a cat that vomits everything she eats? We adopted a cat that was a stray. I bought her some cheap dry cat food. After a week she started throwing it up and won't eat it any more. She will eat soft cat food but is still throwing up. What should I feed her? I tried mixing rice in her soft food but that didn't work.
How can I tell if my cat is narcoleptic? My cat wants to sleep all the time. It will be pounching one minute and then lay down and go to sleep a few minutes later. All it wants to do is sleep. Sometimes while awake the cat will glare nervously at the ceiling fan. The cat will run from the room and hide if we turn the ceiling fan on, but will come back after it bas been running for a while. It will then leave if we shut it off and hide. The cat doesn't like other people and will stay in hiding if we have company until about a hour after everyone leaves. I often find the cat sleeping in wierd places (bottom of the stairs, infront of the door, on a window seat, under the bed next to the heater) and in wierd positions (on its side like a dog, on its back with all four paws in the air, etc). Sometimes the cat will sit and stare at the wall. Is my cat just being a cat or does it have some kind of mental disorder?
Will a cat with a chronic upper respitory infection give their illness to another cat? My family adopted a cat about two years ago. She has a chronic upper respitory infection. We are considering getting a second cat, but we are worried that the new cat will catch our old cat's illness?
What cat will be best to get when I already have a cat? I can get a cat. But I need help. I need to find a cat that will be best for the cat I already have. My cat I have now is 16 months old, indoor cat, no cat buddies yet, male, and fixed. Which cat would he best get along with and what would just be a good match? Cat or Kitten? Male or female? Indoor or outdoor? Help! My cat I also got from the pound. He got along with those cats fine!
How can I test if my Male cat would like a female friend? My cat loves people but I work 40 hours a week and would like to get him a friend. I'm pretty sure he hates all Male cats. When the Neighbors male cat comes to the sliding glass door my cat attacks the glass trying to get at the other cat. But I think he might be ok and even like a Female cat. But how do I test this? I would hate to have to take a cat back to the pound. I got him from the humane society at 5 years old, declawed in front. For all I know he has always been an only cat and likes it that way. But I feel bad when he is home alone. Yes I would only get another declawed cat. Already declawed that is. I would not have that done to a cat but if I can find one that needs a home then thats great. Yes he is fixed and any cat I would get would be fixed as well.

Cat allergies, buying a home from pet owner, trying to clean the carpets? Does anybody have any recommendations on the best way to clean carpets that have been affected by cats? My fiancee is allergic to cats and we are buying a home from a cat owner. We want to have the place professionally cleaned but don't know the best cleaning service to get for this matter. Any recommendations?
What to do about cat not properly weaned? This is going to sound weird. I have an 8 month old female cat who keeps "sucking" on a 4 year old neutered MALE cat. The older cat seems as though he is in pain after the "nursing" has subsided. I'm concerned that this may also mean that the younger cat has severe mental problems. I'm assuming that this behavior is an effect of the cat not being properly weaned. What can I do, or does anyone suggest something that can be put on the older cat's nipples to stop this from recurring?
What precautions should I take before getting a 3rd cat? I have 2 healthy indoor cats. I want to get a 3rd cat from a shelter. 1. Which vaccinations should I give my current cats before getting the new cat? 2. How long should I wait after vaccinating my current cats before getting the new cat? 3. Should I test the cat TWICE for feline leukemia before I introduce it to my other cats? Or is ONE test good enough? I ask because if the new cat recently caught leukemia, it will not show up on the test yet.
How can I add a cat to a family of five dogs? We have five outside dogs, and want an inside/outside cat. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get a new cat used to five dogs? Should we get an adult cat or kitten? For any of you who have both cats and dogs, what is the cat to dog ratio and how did you make it work without the dogs killing the cat?
Can cat owners train their cats to stay at home? Some people don't want cats in their yard, so they rent cat traps or may try other less humane methods.
How can I help my cat adjust to the new cats? 4 months ago I adopted 2 cats from the local animal rescue and the cat that has lived here for about 4 years has still not adjusted to these 2 new cats or the 2 addtional ones I adopted 2 months ago. The first cat took refuge downstairs in my rec-room on the coach and will only leave that spot to eat and use the litter box(usually) sometimes I find pee/poop on the coach. I have tried everything from keeping them separated to keeping them in the same room. When any of the 4 new cats(2 are still kittens) go near her she just screams bloody murder. Will she ever adjust or should I consider something else?
How much food does a cat need to eat in one day? I know all cats are different. But I have just adopted another cat. He is absolutely gorgous. I have another cat too. My other cat eats about 5 pouches of food a day with some biscuits sprinkled on top, so I am feeding my new cat the same too. But my new cat just want's to eat all the time. Do you think I should feed him any more than I am already feeding him. Or is he just a bit greedy? Thank you all so much.
How can you get a cat do get along with a dog? I got a new cat today and he is 2 years old. And I have a 5 year old dog. The dog has been around cats a lot but we haven't had a cat in like 4 months but at first the dog chased the cat. But now the dog is trying to be friendly but the cat keeps growling and hissing at it when it gets close. How often at a shelter do you find a cat without cat flu? Mum says she would never adopt a cat with cat flu? Most cats at the shelter would have cat flu if I'm not mistaken as they spend heaps of time with other cats, epecially when there with penned with 7 other different cats It would be virtually impossible to find a shelter cat the didn't have cat flu? Right or Wrong? Cats are vacciented at our shelters for cat flu and other disease, but although does reduce the chances of a cat getting sick, does not guarantee the cat will not get sick.
What is normal cat behavior after a cat has a cystotomy? My cat had surgery 2 days ago and they removed 30 stones from his bladder, but he is still acting like he is blocked. Is this normal after that kind of surgery? I've called both the emergency vet and my regular vet and they basically say it could be normal or he could be blocked again. Doesn't help much!
How do I get my cat to stop killing birds? I have a cat that keeps getting outside even though we try not to let her out. The problem is that our cat likes to hunt birds. We have two cats and our outdoor cat is fine. But our indoor cat seems to feel she has to leave presents for us at our front doorstep. This morning, I had to dispose of 3 more dead birds. With my work schedule, I'm not home much, and I'm sick and tired of cleaning up dead birds on my front doorstep. She doesn't even eat them, she's just killing them! Anyone else get their cat to stop this behavior? When you have your hands full of items when you go in and out of the house, it's not always possible to grab a small cat that can run between your legs.
How do cats react when you get a new cat? we have 2 cats and we want a third. who would have more problems with the new kitten, the dominent cat or the cat who's second in line?
When cats do not get along with another inside cat, and they are threaten, they pee on my bed. What meds work? Both cats are healthy, no problems. Litter boxes, (3) are kept clean, and are in private places. This only happens when the inside/outside cat is inside . She is very dominate and bossy.
Does your cat eat the sauce first and walkaway to come back later to eat? One of my cats does this, and then the second cat goes to the sauce lickers food bowl and eats it. So, I always have one hungry cat later in the day.
What sort of territory does the average house cat have outside, and what do cats do when they roam? I have two indoor cats, and although they seem perfectly happy in my three-bedroom house, I was wondering about how it compares to the space they'd have to roam in if they were allowed outside and whether they'd be significantly more active there than inside. Does anyone have any idea how large the roaming territory of domesticated cats is, or how much they actually do roam? Does it depend on the territories of other neighborhood cats, geographical markers such as roads and creeks, the gender of the cat, or the cat's personality? And what do cats do when they're wandering around the neighborhood?
How can I get my cat to like other cats? My cat, Rocket, is the happiest and sweetest cat that I've ever met. She purrs all the time and loves being cuddled and held, but there's one problem: while she's so loving and happy with people, she hates other cats. She will turn nearly feral towards them. Is there any way to get her used to other cats, so she can at least be in the same room as them?
How are cat treats different than dry cat food? What would make them different? Same size, same flavors (Chicken Delight, Ocean Fish, Whisker-Lickin' Tuna), same texture... My cat acts like it's Christmas when I open the Feline Greenies bag, though. Does he just *think* it's something better because he gets it less frequently than the cat food, which is available regularly? Or is it really different?
What kind of cat would be the best companion for a stupid, easily scared, spayed female? She's a very sweet lap-cat, but took a long time to warm up to me -- and is still afraid of pretty much everyone else. In the foster home I got her from, she sat on a high shelf near the ceiling, avoiding the other cats. Is there a type of cat she could be friends with? Or do you think her personality dooms her to being an only-cat?
What brand of cat food is best for overweight cats? I have 2 cats. They are both overweight. We feed them Purina Naturals or something like that. We want the best, dry cat food designed specifically for overweight cats. They are adults, 5 and 9 years old. We feed them 1/3 of a cup twice a day, once in the morning, and once at night. We give them snacks throughout the day as well. I think we are feeding them too much. What do you think? •How much food do they need each day? •And how many times to they need to be fed that amount?
How much canned cat food should I feed my cats? I have two cats. One is a year old, the other seems to be two. I was wondering how much cat food they should get a day. (It is canned cat food) I understand how the weight thing should work, but until I can find a accurate scale I've gotta go by holding-the-cat-and-guessing. We had dry food, I don't know if we'll get it. Besides, I didn't ask about what wet food causes, I asked about how much they should be getting.
How do you keep a cat from attacking a puppy? I have a 5 and a half week old puppy, a 3 year old dog and a year old cat. The older dog and the cat get along OK but the cat wants to "play" with the puppy by attacking her. He grabs her and kicks with his back claws. We had his front claws taken out (He is strictly an indoor cat, I am allergic to his claws), but the vet refused to remove the back claws. I have been scolding the cat for playing with the puppy this way and the puppy even does her little growl at him. Does any one have any suggestions?
My cat seems very territorial to new cat. Will it ever work? I got a new cat about 6 months ago from humane society. She is a de-clawed cat that is very agresive to other cats. It was assumed that other cats have probley picked on her, and she was defenseless. I decided recently that I wanted another cat, so I picked up another de-clawed female in hopes that it would at some point allow my current cat to eventually like other cats. My new cats first day was like W.W.W. III. She was very shanken and showed a huge amount of agression, not only with the new cat, but also with me...probley because of new cat smell. I have since split them up in differnt rooms, and switched them back in forth in hopes that they will adjust. Just putting my old cat in the new cats room is a challenge itself. I was told when I adopted 1st cat that she did not like other cats. Did I make a mistake? I dont support de-clawing cats. Just happend to adopt one.
How can I stop a cat hanging around? and how can I treat a bite from a cat? My cat has recently been ganged up on by another cat in my area. He is constantly around our house starting fights with her. She's a small cat and she's had a few nasty bites these last few months. Usually after she gets bitten there's a $300 vet bill to pay... What could I do to stop this other cat hanging around? Or if there's nothing I can do, what kind of antiseptic cream could I put on the bite to stop it getting infected (that wont hurt her if she licks it off)? I've been told she may be on heat, but this fighting has got to stop. My cat has recently been ganged up on by another cat in my area. He is constantly around our house starting fights with her. I've been told she may be on heat, but this fighting has got to stop. 1. She has been spayed. 2. The male cat is not feral, he belongs to a nice lady down the road 3. This cat is NOT an inside cat. No way, not ever. You try having her in for one night. She has a cat door to wander in and out downstairs but the other cat has learnt to follow her in. I'm not keeping her inside. At all. Not an option. She's psycho at night.
How do I get my cat to drop weight and stop begging for food? I recently moved from an apartment where my cat had another cat friend to play with. I would feed my cat one bowl in the morning and the other cat got feed at midnight and was fed an obscene amount of food. So now my cat bangs on my door and cries all night long to be fed. She probably weighs 19-20 pounds. I need to get her weight down and for her to stop begging. She will lay by her bowl and meow and chase you around the house. I dont give in, I still feed her in the morning, but I am now losing sleep because of it. Any Suggestions? I just started feeding her all organic food. So I am hoping that will help. I give her a 1/4 of a cup of food at 630am. From the replies (that are all great) Im thinking that at dinner i should give her another 1/4 cup. In response to the green beans... how does her digestion react to suddenly getting fed human food? And do you think any of the crying has to do with suddenly being the only cat in the house... Do cats have enough memory to realize her other cat friend is not around? Yes I am and have only ever fed her dry food. I thought that the wet food was more fattening. She has not been to the vet in two years, should i schedule an appointment for her to get a check up?
What Kind of cat do you get if you breed a common brown and black tabby with a ginger cat? I've read that the most common type of cat is the brown and black tabby cat and that it has the most dominant genes. I was just wondering what happens when you breed it with a different type of cat; spicifically a ginger one. If possible give references...

What is the best cat food for a cat with stomache problems? I have a young female cat that has a very sensitive stomach, so it is hard to find a consistent cat food that she will eat. She will try all the brands I have gotten, but if she throws it up she wont eat it any more. She has no trouble with wet food though, but I have 4 other cats and would like to keep the kinds of food I get to 2 kinds(dry that is), that I can keep out all day and I know that they will all be able to eat it.

Is it okay to lock a cat in a single room? Our 12yr old female cat urinates all over the house. Usualy in the same few spots. She hardly ever uses the litter box, and this has been going on for quite some time now. The cat is an inside/outside cat It is not a super friendly cat. How do you introduce 1 adult cat to a home that already has 2 adult cats? I just moved into a home with my adult cat - the home already has two adult cats. The two cats and my cat are not getting along and are hissing and growling at eachother all the time. The two cats don't like my cat and my cat doesn't like them. Will they ever get along, will they learn to live with eachother? Is it safe to let them roam free while i'm out or should i separate them. Any tips or advice will be EXTREMELY appreciated.
How do I socialize a new cat with an old dog? I'm fostering an adult cat in my house but I also have an adult dog. I know the adult dog doesn't get along well with other (usually male) dogs, but he's never been around a cat before. I want the adult dog and adult cat to get to know each other, but I don't want them to kill each other. The adult cat is pretty tame. I led my leashed dog to him and the adult cat didn't mind--or when he did mind, he hissed. How do I get them to get used to each other?
I recently purchased a cat from Russia and have been having problems? I bought a cat from Russia and now I am having a communication problem. I guess it only speaks Russian because whenever I ask it if its hungry it doesn't reply. I asked my other cats to talk to it but they don't know Russian either. Does anybody know where I can find local Russian cat translators? I don't know what this cat needs and the language barrier is putting distress throughout my family of cats. I am a 23 year old dude with a cat family and nobody seems to take this problem seriously. This language barrier is causing turmoil within my kitty family.
