My dad is allergic to dust but I want to get a cat?
My dad is allergic to dust but I really want to get a cat is there anything that i can do? And I'm going to have to say no to the option of a hairless cat. Thanks, Sam B.

- Cats don't have dust. But dander and everything, there's a few products for that. Have fun. Or waste your money on a hypoallergetic cat or something.
- There's a big difference between being allergic to dust and being allergic to cats. The thing that people are usually allergic to in cats is the dander, but if you are serious about getting a cat, you could talk about it with your dad. If he thinks he's allergic to cats, he could go see a doctor to get an allergy test to confirm. Also, a lot of cat allergies are very mild, like dust allergies. I am allergic to cats, and I get itchy eyes and a runny nose every time I'm around a new cat. I also own two cats, and I felt like I had a mild cold for about a week after getting each, but you get used to them.
- cats aren't dusty. if he's allergic to dander (which I am, but wouldn't give up my kitty for anything) claritin helps, and lots of visine for when the itch sets in.
- give your cat a shower with cat shampoo that takes out dandruff. i insist you get a shorthair and brush it everyday.and also get litter that does not cause dust. keep the litter box clean.
- its the dander that people are allergic too. You could try to borrow someones cat and run a hepa filter in your house and see how your dad will react to it. A good hepa will run around 150+, I have one myself i become allergic to my bird and i gave her away but her dander was everywhere i ran the hepa for a week and no problem since
