Is my new sphynx cat broken?
I purchased a male sphynx about two months ago. He is a wonderful animal, but he leaks. He has a little bit of runny bowel movements and then will randomly leak when he's asleep. I have taken him to the vet and they cannot find anything wrong with him. The medicines used to treat diarreah don't seem to phase him. I know that sphynx's have higher a metabolism than other cats because they have no fur, but could all of this be due to that? His appetite is great, he is playful, and overall, seems fine.

- What are you feeding him? Is he incontinent? I really am not sure. Try feeding him a Holistic diet if you are not already. He could have an allergy to his food as well.
- if he's leaking, it's because his sphincter is loosening up during sleep. it also could be because heat revs the cat's bodies metabolism.
- All the cat breeds are a little more prone to health problems than the regular old "mutt" cats. He may have a food allergy and need a special diet. If he doesn't have parasites or other problems, that's what I would bank on. Ask the vet if you can have your cat try a prescription food. He may always have sort of soft stools, but the prescription food should at least allow the feces to get hard enough so they don't leak out of him. If they're leaking he really can't control it. The reason for that won't be clear until you've either verified or eliminated a food allergy as the culprit. Maybe he just needs to wear a kitty diaper.
