Does anybody wants to give me support and advice with a sphynx?
bought the kitty 2 days ago was told he had allergies not severe, other than that he was in perfect condition.......very wrong . I'm so overwelmed and don't know how to feel I want to cry, the vet tells me is going to be a long road ,and that he was dumped on me. Mariana, sorry , first what they told me were allergies now have turn into a BAD nasal inflamation,he has herpes,he has an absses on the cornea with small laceration, both of his eyes are so irritated that they water all the time so he kept them closed, found out also that he lost his little front teeth and he has gingavitis that has to be taken care of,he has been drinking so much water that the vet is running a urine test to see if his kidneys are ok, this is the kitty that had only allergies here and there that were controled with over the counter childrens meds, aside from that he was in perfect health, this is very hard for me I have dreamed of this day for 1 year now I can't even begin to understand how somebody can let an animal go this way,the reason they sold him (so they say) because of his allergies he could not smell the female when she was in heat,so he can't make kitties, and I can't understand how anybody can sell an animal in this conditions and be ok with what they done.

- and...what's the problem? i can't help if u don't specify a little more, what's going on with your kitten? which are the allergies?
- Sorry to hear about that. if you bought it from a breeder a lot of times they do it for the money not for the animals. They can care less about the animals themselves. I would get a vet report take it to the people and let them know that you want the money back for it. If you signed a contract I am sure there is a medical stipulation in it. That doesn't help the poor kitty but at least they don't get money for the poor thing.
- so hes got little allergies its alright he'll get through it with love and care and as long as you follow the vets orders. I have a spotted leopard bangle and he had allergies and we "supposedly" bought him in perfect health. It was expensive but today hes better and he did get better fast. You've already invested in the kitty a little more investment is worth more then the reward at the end. And yes you want to cry its hard, but making that little kitty happy will make you feel happy.
- Hi there...there are many resources to help you so you can better manage the allergies for your Sphynx cat. Diet usually is the first avenue to consider. Most cat food products contain corn, corn meal and soy which irritates a cats delicate system. There are higher premium quality foods generally found at smaller specialty pet stores, which also contains essential quality nutrients and no byproducts such as: Innova EVO: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=product-detail&pxsl=%2F%2Fproduct%5B%40id%3D%271255%27%5D California Natural: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=product-detail&pxsl=%2F%2Fproduct%5B%40id%3D%2772%27%5D Nature's Variety Prairie: http://www.naturesvariety.com/content.lasso?page=1352 Wellness: http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/cats/wellness_overview.html Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul: http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/formulasnew.php?PL=4&S=Cats&FT=Dry%20Food If and when you are ready to switch food brands/types please keep in mind that any sudden changes with a cat will cause stomach distress as well as diarrhea in cats. You will need to gradually change his food to the new brand over a course of several weeks. How you do this is to take 3/4 of the old food and mix it together with 1/4 of the new food for one week. Then 1/2 of the new with 1/2 of the old for another week. Finally, 3/4 of the new food mixed with 1/4 of the old for a week before finally 100% of the new food. Please keep in mind that some cats absolutely just don't like some brands of foods either so you may need to consider another brand and then again gradually mix the old kind with the new one to help her adjust. It just cannot be done any other way without making the cat very sick. - Lysine helps with feline herpes. 1,000 mg per day crsuch the pills and mix in with food. Poor you and the cat...
- I think you should investigate legal options to get money you paid for the cat back with some damages for medical expenses. Then I think you should locate a very good homeopathic or holistic veterinarian to help you manage the cat's medical problems. Type in www.ahvma.com to find a holistic veterinarian in your area. Seattle is right. Diet will be the first consideration. I feed my cats a raw meat diet with a supplement powder I get from Feline Instincts. It is not hard to do. I have been doing it for seven years for as many as seven cats. One would be a snap! This will give your new cat the strongest possible immune system to fight the herpes and should clear up allergies in no time. You can find support and how to advice on the Yahoo group Holisticat. For herpes outbreaks in the eyes Jean Hovfe, DVM recommends using: "Lysine: 250 to 500 milligrams twice a day for up to five days for an acute episode. Break open the capsule and mix the contents into the food. Artifical tears: 1 to 2 drops, three or four times a day." She suggests using Tears Renewed available in drug stores. "...help wash away viral particles. It contains methyl cellulose and enhances the adherence of the drops on the eye, so you don't have to repeat the process that often. Anibiotics will not help with this situation because it is viral." I hope that you will have the courage to take on this challenge. You can certainly make a difference in this poor cat's life and be very proud of yourself for doing so. And get that f***ing breeder for all you can! Sandy, the Holisticat leader, is a great gal and all the people there will help support you. I am there too. You don't need to feel overwhelmed we will be there for you. If you join the group my email address is there. Write me whenever you need support. I will gladly do what I can to help you. Get some Rescue Remedy at a health foods store tomorrow and start putting it on the cat's fur between his ears. Three to four drop at a time, many times a day for the next few days or a week. Shake the bottle well before each applicationl. Herpes outbreaks can be brought on by stress. This will help the cat get this out of his system what with his new home and your stress at his physical condition. Use it yourself -- that's why it's in a health foods store because people use it.
